Atlas Coelestis seu Harmonia Macrocosmica (Amsterdam, 1660) by Andreas Cellarius (c. 1596–1665). Schiller’s Christianized Heaven, Southern Hemisphere. Copperplate engraving on paper, hand colored.

Andreas Cellarius (c. 1596–1665) is best known for his Atlas Coelestis seu Harmonia Macrocosmica, a fascinating celestial atlas and a remarkable achievement of the golden age of Dutch cartography. Although born and educated in Germany, Cellarius, a Latin instructor and cosmographer, lived in Holland for most of his life, during which time Amsterdam was a world center for mapmaking. This map of the heavens is a star chart after Julius Schiller’s Christianized Heaven, Southern Hemisphere, wherein constellations feature Old Testament saints rather than pagan deities. It was first published in 1660 by Johannes Janssonius of Amsterdam as one of twenty-nine hand-colored double-folio maps included in Cellarius’s atlas. This edition of the Harmonia Macrocosmicais in the collection of the British Library, which encourages research and promotes education while engaging the public throughthe display and interpretation of its extraordinary resources.

Thoughtfully conceived and engagingly intricate, our 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzles combine superb color reproduction, stunning and unusual images, and sturdy construction to delight generations of novice and veteran puzzleworkers.

WHY PRE-ORDER ?

We absolutely encourage the process of pre-ordering "Coming Soon" items, because it hedges your bet.

You have a better chance of actually getting an item if you pre-order it now. (First come, first served - some exceptions apply.) Our systems automatically fill retail orders on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED basis (some exceptions apply).

We don't "allocate" products. (Allocate is a dirty word in this industry that means shipping products to other people before we ship to you... regardless of when you or they ordered.) If you ordered an item when it was first posted on our website, you are FAR more likely to receive it than if you order the same item today.

And if you wait until a later date to order the item, you might never get it at all. That's because your fellow collectors and gift purchasers have pre-ordered every single piece of an item we might be getting. (This is called "PRE-SOLD OUT.") Don't let that happen to you! Don't be left out! Pre-order now!
